The girl’s soccer team is on fire this season with seven wins, one tie, and only two losses. With some tough games and close games, the girl’s soccer team has managed to pull out an impressive overall season.
They began their season with an impressive win over LaPorte! Several hat tricks were made during the game by Tewabech Serrup and Adey Avey, with assists from Eva Montes. They ended the game with a score of 9-0 beginning their season on a high note!
Following their very successful game at LaPorte, the girls pulled out a victory over the Munster Mustangs. Munster came out of the gate strong, but that soon ended after Avey, Montes, and Sydney Morris scored in the first half of the game. Though Munster snuck in a score right before halftime, Avey secured a fourth goal in the second half. Overall, Chesterton came out on top with a final score of 4-1.
Unfortunately, the team’s winning streak came to an end after a tough loss to Penn. Senior Ella Keane made the only goal with a penalty kick. However, the girls played hard and ended with a score of 2-1.
They bounced back at their next game with a big win over Michigan City. Scoring fast and early, senior Olivia Virgil scored a hat trick only 6 minutes into the game. Despite the incredible individual effort, Virgil highlighted her mindset during games throughout the season.
“I don’t really put pressure on myself for individual accolades or accomplishments, I just want to play my best the whole season and if awards and accolades come along with it, that’s great,” Vigril acknowledged.
The rest of the game went similarly with successful plays left and right. Ultimately, the game ended in a victory with a score of 10-0.
A few days later, the team followed up their victory with another successful game against Culver Academies. With seven different players scoring, Chesterton dominated the game ending with a score of 8-1.
The following week, Chesterton played against its biggest rival, Valparaiso. The game was close on all sides. During the first half, Valpo controlled the game but Chesterton came back with a vengeance in the second half. With a score of 2-2, the game went into overtime and penalties. All five penalty kicks were successful by Keane, Emma Skalka, Carmen Stark, Ava Olivencia & Virgil. Fortunately for Chesterton, Valpo only made four out of five of their penalties, as junior goalie Kate Wantuch made a huge diving save to preserve the win for the Trojans. In the end, Chesterton was victorious against their rival!
The girls’ senior night brought a successful victory against Merrillville. The five seniors scored at least 2 goals each. Melissa Cook, Keane, Seerup, Skalka, and Virgil were celebrated and brought a victory for the team with a final score of 13-0.
