Chesterton High School just wrapped up its first round of college app camp. The camp was offered to all students, but not surprisingly was attended mainly by seniors. It was led by CHS counselors Mrs. Arthur and Ms. Hess. The pair guided students through the common app, financial aid, and much more.
The camp took place over three, hour-and-a-half sessions during students’ SRT. The first day students spent the class filling out some of the common application, which is the application that many US colleges and universities use, as well as choosing which essay topic they would like to write. The second day was spent filling out other parts of the application as well as starting the ‘Brag Sheet’ The Brag Sheet is CHS’ way of making students look their best on college applications. It asks what activities students have participated in, the awards they have won, and everything that makes them look good in general. The third and final session was spent talking about financial aid and scholarship opportunities which could be considered the most important, because who doesn’t love free money? Hess and Arthur walk students through the process of applying for scholarships and explain the details of financial aid and FAFSA.
Overall, the camp was a success and gave students a helping hand in applying for college. The second session of the camp starts up soon and will hopefully be as successful as the first!
