In a significant development for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers in Northwest Indiana, plans for a substantial upgrade to the Calumet Trail have been unveiled. The Calumet Trail, a cherished pathway for hikers, bikers, and nature enthusiasts has one major flaw: the trail is a very uneven surface of loose gravel, causing flooding issues.

“It is a long time coming,” Rafi Wilkinson of the National Park Service told the Chicago Tribune. “Developing a multi-use pedestrian train through the Indiana Dunes National Park has been a priority for 40 years.”
