Chesterton Girls Softball has started its season and has had an amazing start through their hard work and dedication.
Chesterton Girls Softball kicks off its season as we roll into spring. In the 22-23 spring season the team went 7-14. They have won against some of our rival DAC teams including Valparaiso, Michigan City, and Merrillville. Varsity Player, sophomore Lila Miller thinks they are on the right track for an amazing season.
“We have many amazing freshmen this year and good potential,” said Miller.
So far this season, the girls have played Hobart, Griffith, Hanover Central, LaPorte, Avon, Pendleton Heights, Michigan City, and Lake Central teams. They had amazing wins against Michigan City and Griffith with scores of 17-7 against Michigan City and 6-0 against Griffith.
Freshman Ava Vagner is ready for this upcoming season with her new team and is excited to take on the challenge.
“Our most challenging games will be LC and the most exciting game will be Valparaiso,” said Vagner.
There are strengths and weaknesses that all teams possess. All players have different attributes and bring different things to the table.
“The team’s strengths are communication and weaknesses are being able to keep up the effort through all seven innings,” said Vagner.
The girls will go on to play fifteen more games. Their season will finish on May 16th against the Lowell Devils.
Currently, the team holds a 2-10 record for the season but will go on to give a good effort through the rest of the season and continue to work hard. The games for the upcoming week are against Crown Point at 4:30 on Wednesday and against Illiana Christian High School on Saturday at home at 10:00. The girls have recently had several games postponed, so make sure to keep an eye out for rescheduled games and future games for the rest of the season.
