October is here, and the chilling performance of the CHS orchestra is officially kicking off the best time of the year. This was the orchestra’s first concert of the year, held on October 1st. The intermediate orchestra, directed by Brian Grenier, was the first to perform, while the advanced orchestra followed soon after.
The intermediate orchestra played “Ghost Carnival” by Erik Morales, “Phantom Castle” by James Curnow, and “Monster Mash” arranged by Bob Phillips (Words and music by Bobby Pickett and Leonard Capizzi). The orchestra sure gave the audience a howl, but they couldn’t have done it without Mr. Boo-menthal, who sang the lyrics of Monster Mash. Although this song was challenging, the orchestra’s hard work paid off.
“My favorite piece of music was Monster Mash, I think the difficulty level was good for where we were,” said Valaria Chavez, a member of the CHS intermediate orchestra.
The advanced orchestra played several songs, including “Darkened Shadows” by John Reznicow, “Selections From Phantom of the Opera” by Andrew Lloyd Webber, and “The Evil Eye And Hideous Heart by Alan Lee Silva.” This frightful performance was definitely a hit with the audience.
Another memorable performance has come and gone, and there will be more to come. The audience isn’t the only ones looking forward to future performances.
“Concerts are great experiences. They are a lot of fun and we always take what we learn from a concert and apply it to the next concert,” said Brian Grenier.
Every concert is another milestone showcasing the improvement of the students. These musicians will continue to impress as they work together on future pieces. The orchestra allows students to participate in a multitude of activities such as concerts, competitions, field trips, etc. These memories will be cherished by the students for years to come.
