Last month, Duneland Exchange Club named its outstanding student of the month. It was Chesterton High School’s very own senior, Logan Arthur! The Duneland Exchange Club wanted to reward Arthur for his numerous accomplishments and dedication to helping his community.
Not only has he given time to improve his community, but he also does it while managing his own needs and bettering himself. Arthur showcases his excellent time management skills by maintaining a GPA of 4.53 while also juggling being on the tennis team and the CHS Orchestra, volunteering for multiple groups, participating in theater productions, and working at The 219 Taproom.
Arthur’s accomplishments are outstanding and set a wonderful example for the students that surround him. He has maintained his place on the principal’s honor roll for all four years of high school. His rigorous effort dedicated to his education has ranked his GPA at 17th in a highly competitive graduating class.
“Logan exemplifies academic excellence, leadership, and community involvement, making him an outstanding recipient of this honor,” said Jackie Ruge-Perkins, the Duneland Exchange Club’s Treasurer.
Ruge-Perkins and countless others commend Arthur for his hard work paying off. According to Arthur, this was not the only reward he received for his good deeds.
“It’s just like looking forward and seeing the end goal of getting into a good college and doing all these things and feeling the sense of accomplishment,” said Arthur.
Even in accepting an award, his wonderful character shone through. He intended only to do good for the world. And although he did not expect it, Arthur accepted his award gracefully and was extremely proud of it.
“This might be one of the proudest achievements I’ve [gotten] because I didn’t really expect it,” said Arthur when reflecting on his experience with awards.
Arthur was honored to be named student of the month. From the tennis courts to the concert hall, Arthur has demonstrated that success isn’t all about the grades. While his GPA is outstanding, Arthur’s achievements extend outside of the classroom. Out of his achievements with his GPA, his awards on the tennis team and orchestra, and his pursuit of business, he chose to name this as his proudest achievement. Through everything wonderful that he has done, he feels the most proud to be the Exchange Club Student of the Month.
Through all his hard volunteering and serving his community, he has gained some great knowledge of his own. Arthur has also gained some great wisdom through his experiences. He has become deeply familiar with the virtue of balance.
“I’ve learned to stop when you can’t do anymore ’cause I used to be a lot harder of like once I’ve started something I need to finish it, but I’ve learned that boundaries are a good thing and I need to set boundaries,” said Arthur in order to highlight the importance of mental health through continuing hard work. “And I’ve also learned that some things you don’t need to get an award for, you can just do it for the good of other people, and you can just do it because you enjoy it.”
These are important lessons for him that he will take into his future as he works to continue his path of greatness. He hopes to continue his goals at Ohio’s Denison University, studying theater and psychology. With his parents behind him and cheering him on, everybody is sure that Arthur absolutely has what it takes to go on and continue to do great things and give back to the community. All the while he will continue to accept rewards but not expect them.
