You do not want to miss the first annual Run The Spectrum 5k in Chesterton’s History! On Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 8 am to 12 pm, everyone is invited to show support and get informed about autism awareness! Enjoy the beautiful landscape of the Indiana Dunes State Park on a brisk Saturday morning while supporting your community. This event is being hosted by Chesterton High School Senior Zachary Jatkiewicz. Jatkiewicz carefully thought out all aspects, including the venue, in order to make it extremely fun and comfortable for the runners in return for their support.
“Being out in nature and the lake always brought me calm and peace, and I wanted to share that with others,” stated Jatkiewicz.
This is why the Dunes is the perfect venue for the race. The run fee for the 5k run/walk will be $30, and an additional $2.80 will be added as a sign-up fee. All proceeds made from the race will go towards clients with autism at Kidworks, Chesterton, IN. Kidworks is an organization that offers a wide range of pediatric therapy.
“I was diagnosed with autism at an early age, and I got services from Kidworks,” said Jatkiewicz when asked why this event and supporting Kidworks are important to him.
He wants to continue to give back to an organization that helped him. The goal is to raise $1000 for Kidworks. Participants or those who will not be able to make the raise are encouraged to donate at https://runsignup.com/Race/Donate/IN/Chesterton/RunTheSpectrum5K.
Those who wish to participate in the race should sign up at https://runsignup.com/Race/Info/IN/Chesterton/RunTheSpectrum5K. Make sure to register for the run before April 5 at 7 pm CDT. Applications will not be accepted after this time.
Besides raising money, another way to benefit the autism community is to stay informed and keep those around you informed. An array of non-profit organizations will be available at the race to hand out flyers with reliable and accurate information. In addition to the informational flyers, there will be plenty of refreshments for the runners. Runners will also have shirts customized for the 5K run.
The first three runners to finish the 5K will receive a medal, and all runners will have food and snacks available after the 5K race. Runners should dress appropriately for the weather and come well-rested and ready to race.
Help your community and have a great time on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 8 am to 12 pm at the Dunes!
