Come to Sign Manufacturing Day on October 4, 2024, at 7933 W US HWY 6 Westville, IN 36391, hosted by Legacy Sign Group in association with the Duneland Chamber of Commerce! The day is hosted for students interested in this field to learn what they may need going into it and get excited about the intricate world of signs. Legacy Sign Group also welcomes any industries looking to partner with them for event or business opportunities. Legacy Sign Group hopes to open up the field and inform younger generations about what goes into sign crafting, how to enter the trade, and the benefits of the field.
The day will start with a delicious breakfast. Then, it will transition into interactive learning and presentations. These will include information on color theory, basic electricity, a live viewing of the computer numerical control (CNC) router, and different programs and signs. There will be a ton of information on many areas of the signage industry since there are so many specialties within the craft. Students can benefit greatly from taking a look at each aspect of signing because they each utilize different skills. The day will then transition to lunch followed by another presentation scheduled in the afternoon.
Along with the Duneland Chamber of Commerce, Watchfire Signs will be attending to brighten the day with their LED displays. Simko Signs will outline digital printing and etching, and General Electric will shine some light on LED modules. Legacy Sign Group will hold two live demonstrations for students: one during the morning and one in the afternoon. All of these companies will help students get a feel for what kind of jobs the sign industry offers.
Even if you may not notice it, signs and advertising are all around you. Legacy Sign Group wants to help those who do not realize how beneficial the industry is. This is the third year that they have participated in Sign Manufacturing Day, but the International Sign Association has put on this event for many years and plans to continue the tradition. Over the years, it has grown exponentially from a gathering of 20 to 30 students to an anticipated 100 students this year. Anyone is welcome to attend, but juniors and seniors should make sure to attend if they are interested in design, marketing and sales, welding, engineering, metal fabrication, business, or art in general. It may also be especially interesting for students who are seeking alternative degrees.
Megan Swick, Marketing and Social Media Specialist at Legacy Sign Group gives insight into her own experience with the sign industry.
“It…depends. It could…be from on-the-job training to four-year degrees…Just for me personally I have on-the-field experience from marketing, doing real estate, and I was able to apply that to this job. And now I run the marketing department over there. So the opportunity was put there for me without a college degree,” Swick said when asked what students may need to enter the field. “There’s many levels and different certifications and four-year degrees or two-year degrees that could help you.”
This makes the sign industry highly accessible for students coming into the field. It is an industry with a lot of potential for growth and financial success. It also opens up the opportunity for students to not only learn about a craft they are interested in but also meet people their age who share the same passions.
Enjoy a day full of fun and learning with Legacy Sign Group on October 4!
