If he could master any skill right now, senior Lucas Johnson doesn’t hesitate: golf. “I spend a lot of my time off golfing,” he said, and it’s clear this isn’t just a hobby, it’s a passion.
Not everything is so appealing, though. When asked what food is absolutely repulsive, the answer came without pause: cauliflower. Guilty pleasures, on the other hand, include a little self-indulgence: buying clothes.
If he could trade lives for a day, it would be with Travis Scott. “He lives such a free lifestyle,” Johnson explains, a sentiment that reflects a laid-back, adventurous approach to life. That fearless spirit shows up in other answers too. If fear didn’t exist, he’d go skydiving tomorrow.
Family remains his grounding force. “[I’m] most myself with my family,” he says, a sentiment mirrored in his biggest dream: to grow successfully alongside his brothers. Achievements and memories are important too; one moment he’d love to relive is making it to the second day of the Al Smith wrestling tournament.
Books, music, and personal reflection matter as well. My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George left a mark. “It shows how he’s alone and can handle himself,” he reflects, noting that his mom, attendance secretary Mrs. Basel-Johnson, suggested the novel.
Looking ahead, his future is still undetermined. “I’m going with the wind,” Johnson says, hoping to be successful, have a comfortable home, and the necessities to live well. Entertainment takes a backseat; the next thing in his streaming queue is Yellowstone, though TV isn’t really a priority, but he does note that Cheezits are his favorite snack.
Lucas Johnson is carving his own path. Due to his high grades at CHS and Ivy Tech, he earned a scholarship to Ivy Tech and attends welding classes and a virtual business course and will earn his associates degree in welding on May 28th. Numerous welding positions have been offered but a position hasn’t been chosen as of publication. With his next step in welding, he’s turning hard work and skill into a future he can shape with his own hands.
