It’s that time of year again- pumpkin spice and football nights! But it’s also, more importantly, your academic comeback year! Here are some ways that you can LOCK IN and get those A’s!
First Things First- The Teacher
Check with your teacher first and get an SRT pass, or come before or after school if your teacher offers it. But you may be saying, “Sophia, my teacher and I have different teaching styles, I don’t understand them at all!” Don’t fret, try going to a teacher who teaches that same subject.
Tutor Lab
Need help during school? After school on Tuesdays? Go to Mrs. Goodman’s room, located right next to the library! You’ll have a real student be able to help you! But check with Mrs. Goodman for a pass when you can, or with your teacher!
Khanmigo
The school offers Khanmigo, through Khan Academy. It’s great for common subjects, English, math, science, and social studies. Plug in the question and it will walk you through it!
Private Tutor
If you think you need a lot of help, maybe hiring a tutor would help. You can Google online for in the area based on subject and price.
The Westchester Library
Go to the library or use their online resources! It’s free to use and you might even be able to find a book while you’re at it.
Study Groups
Make a study group with classmates. Oftentimes, people from your class will understand different things and you’ll all be knowledgeable with different parts of the class.
What if I don’t need tutoring or help but rather motivation?
First things first, let’s get rid of the phone. Put it in another room, no excuses, on silent. Make the room you’re in comfortable, or if you can’t, try your best to. Stay in a distraction free environment when possible. There are many different study methods, but one I like is to work for twenty minutes and take a five minute break (the Pomodoro Technique). Cramming isn’t good for you, but when you break it up and reward yourself you’ll want to do it again!
Motivation, something that is hard to have when you’re sitting memorizing chemistry notecards. Have a friend push you along or have a friend study with you. Ask friends, teachers, or even family to help motivate you. Whether that be little reminders or a treat, don’t be afraid to reach out for help!
Advice
Say you’re swamped with homework, don’t be afraid to cancel plans or skip a club. You can’t always fix a test grade. Make time for homework and for a life outside of school. You need a balance in order to experience new things!
Here’s to your best year yet! Study hard and let’s pass those classes!
