You’re finally there; senior year! Congrats, just a few months and you’re out of Chesterton and into a new world! It’s hard to believe we once were those freshmen, thinking we had all this time, isn’t it? Remember your first homecoming or the biology lessons? Crazy to think we thought that stuff was hard and we hadn’t even had chemistry yet, or AP classes! Here’s to the best year we’ve got, and how we are going to make it our year!
Grades matter! Serious, even if you’re telling us that you have a 1.9 GPA, and you flunked all underclassmen years. Getting your GPA up by .6 could be the difference between a scholarship and passing classes and pushing up through the ranks. Don’t let senioritis get to you, and if you’re one of those who have had it since freshman year, WAKE UP! Grades matter, whether for college or for passing, you need to try this year! Take credit recovery instead of a study hall if allowed, or stay after and get help. This is supposed to be our year, so let’s make it.
Don’t cheat, guys, come on, common sense! It’s going to ruin your record this year, and come on, you’re better than that. Don’t be afraid to try new things.
Realize what you want this year. Are you going to college? The trades? Service? What do you want? Not your parents, your friends, your teachers, but you? Be honest with yourself and don’t be scared to find what you like.
College is around the corner for some, so let’s get the Common App started! Talk to the counselor, you should have at least 5 colleges in mind and applied to before November. Get your transcripts sent, and start applying for scholarships. Check the Duneland School Corporation website for some scholarships EACH MONTH. New ones are always being added, so check. Even if you aren’t a senior! Scholarships can help a lot. Search by your age, grade, interests, race, gender identity, allergies, hobbies, and major, and much more!
