The Chesterton Trojan boys’ tennis team is coming to the end of an amazing 2025 season, reinforcing their reputation as one of the strongest teams in northwest Indiana. With hard work, growing leadership, and strong team chemistry, the Trojans not only posted a strong record but claimed their fourth IHSAA title in five years.
In addition to collecting a strong title, Chesterton continued the legacy and won their Duneland Athletic Conference (DAC), earning their sixth in a row. This win reflects their hard work and effort both on and off the court.
In the words of Kenny Walsh, “We have the talent, we have the experience…now we have to get our intensity at a higher level and keep our focus throughout the entire season. We lost focus at the end of 2024, so as coaches and as a team, we need to learn from that.”
The boys’ tennis team was led by experienced coaches and veteran players who demonstrated focus and hard work throughout the season. Coach Tom Bour, along with his assistants Kenny Walsh and Scott Garrison, provided steady leadership and helped guide the team towards victory.
Senior Luke Sorigic and junior Peyton Belegal have won many matches so far, ensuring the team a good spot at number one and two singles. Brady McWhirter has also made a significant impact on the team, strongly following at number three. At number one doubles, Shane Henry and Jake Bell have a ton of prior experience under their belt and will contend for the top conference doubles team this year.
Additionally, the sophomores came into this season and improved a lot by putting in good work and improving from their performances a year ago. Freshmen Stone Palko and Dylan Ressler have practiced the competitiveness and dedication it takes to be a part of the team.
Overall, the boys’ scores and achievements are bright. They finished the 2025 season at 16-4 overall, reclaimed the Sectional Title, and won their 6th straight Conference Title. After moving on to the IHSAA Regionals, they finished the season ranked #22. Not only are their accomplishments a plus, but so is the hard work and dedication of the players. Since the season is coming to an end, make sure to give one of the boys a high five in the hallways.
