As softball player Jillienne Pittman dashes across the field, the crowd erupts with joy, excitement spreading through the stadium as the ball soars over the fence for a dramatic home run. So far, the Chesterton Trojans softball (Girls V) season has been a mix of wins, losses, and disruptions from canceled games. Although the season has gotten off to a slow start, the Trojans have demonstrated resilience through their offensive power in key matchups. For example, they had a 22-0 win over the Michigan City Wolves softball on April 8 and a 16-6 win against the Portage Indians softball on Apr 20.
In their 16-6 win, the Chesterton Trojans softball (Girls V) delivered a strong performance and worked together to achieve tremendous results. Hannah Florian contributed greatly while hitting and pitching. Furthermore, she led the way on the mound with eight strikeouts and also contributed at the plate with a home run and four RBIs. Jillienne Pittman and Lexi Smith each added a home run which helped guide the Trojans to victory on April 20. Furthermore, Pittman felt strongly guided by her mother, explaining that,”I honestly believe that my mom is my biggest supporter because she is always there for me. I can always count on my mom to be there for genuine support and care.”
Astonishingly, both Hannah Florian and Ava Vagner contributed to the win over the Michigan City Wolves. Florian sprinted between the mound and the plate, striking out seven batters and adding a hit with two RBIs. Ava Vagner pitched two innings and drove in three runs offensively. Natalie Dusendeng achieved a home run, three runs and three RBIs. Going for the win, Jillienne Pittman went 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBIs and a stolen base.
Recently, the girls defeated the Valparaiso Vikings 11-10 on April 21. With this thrilling win, the Chesterton Trojans softball team is paving the way for important games coming up. They faced the New Prairie Cougars softball on Apr 25, and had a matchup against Michigan City Wolves softball on Apr 28. Consider showing up and supporting these amazing players by attending a remaining game as the Trojans proceed to wrap up their season. Addressing their progress, Pittman explained that,”Comparing this year to last year there’s definitely progress. You can see individual improvement and the group starting to come together more as the season goes on.”
