As the weather starts to chill, families and children are starting to get really cold. Especially for younger students and those who are in middle school, it can be hard to lug books back and forth between classes. There are a lot of places in Chesterton for people to donate clothing and help the community. By supporting the Chesterton community and making your donations, people will have what they need in order to be safe and well prepared.
Additionally, Chesterton hosted a winter clothing Drive from November 3rd through November 7th, where they donated to families and children in need. CHS families very kindly brought in coats, boots, snowpants, jackets, and other winter apparel. This event was sponsored by Key Club and Interact Club. Based on the clothing demands of this event, families are in desperate need of child snow pants in sizes 2T-XS and boots. Even a simple clothing donation was more than okay, especially if children have outgrown attire and it is sitting around pointlessly.
There are so many churches, charities, fundraisers, and programs near Chesterton that help to support the community. For example, there is a Goodwill in Valparaiso that is open to year-round donations. There are also organizations like “One Warm Coat” and “The Salvation Army” are well known non-profits that collect donated coats and distribute them to people in need.
If making donations does not feel appealing, the Chesterterton European Christmas Market will be hosted downtown on Saturday, November 29th. There will be tents filled with local products and artisans selling their wares, local store happenings, and more activities to explore. Additionally, there will be beautiful trees and wreaths to purchase, horse-drawn carriages, and other fun things to do.
At the local high school, the CHS music department will be hosting its 53rd annual Madrigal Dinner on December 5th, 6th, and 7th in the cafeteria. Tickets will be sold online only and will be on sale for 40 dollars per person. The link to buy tickets is inserted below, along with a few others. Check out the high school website for more information on how to support the school and engage in local activities.
