It’s almost St.Patrick’s Day, so it’s time to grab your pot of gold and some Irish soda bread; let’s celebrate!
St.Patrick’s Day is on Tuesday, March 17th, 2026; it is always on the 17th. St.Patrick’s Day begins with the story of St. Patrick, who is the patron saint of Ireland, even though he was born in Roman Britain in the 5th century. When St.Patrick was only 16 years old, he was kidnapped and enslaved by Irish pirates. Once he was brought to Ireland, he was forced to herd animals and perform several other meager tasks. Six years later, he finally escaped and returned to his home and family.
Eventually, St.Patrick became a bishop and traveled back to Ireland, spreading Christianity throughout the nation. He converted many people to the faith and had several churches and missionaries built, such as the Saul Church. Some legends say that he drove all the snakes away from Ireland, which is a bit confusing until you understand that snakes in the Bible represent the devil.
On top of that, it is said that he uses three-leaf clovers to explain the teachings of the Holy Trinity. The reason we celebrate St.Patrick’s Day on the 17th is that it is believed that it is the day he died.
While the holiday first started in Ireland, it has spread to the U.S, mainly in the cities of Chicago, Boston, and New York. Irish immigrants influenced the tradition into a yearly celebration that we have each year.
