Senior captain and MVP (3 years running) Luke Sorgic has cemented his place in CHS Tennis program history. Together with his crew, boys’ tennis won its sixth consecutive DAC title, and its fourth IHSAA sectional championship in five years, on Saturday, Oct. 4. In his four-year career at CHS, he has never lost any conference matches. It’s no wonder NWI.Life named Sorgic the Athlete of the Week October 18.
Competing at No. 1 singles for the third straight year, Sorgic is the first Chesterton player ever to advance to the Top 6 at the IHSAA State Finals, which take place October 24–25. Entering the state rounds, he is a perfect 7-0 in the postseason and took an impressive 19-2 overall record into regional play. After this weekend, he is now 25-2.
Sorgic’s run included a dominating 6-3, 6-1 win over previously-undefeated Nick Vukas from Illiana Christian at the individual regional hosted at North Central. Earlier in the season he dominated Lowell with a 6-1, 6-0 victory, Andrean 6-0, 6-0, and LaPorte’s Evan Hough 6-2, 6-0.
Six players remain in the state competition.
Good luck this weekend, Luke!
