Students write in their journals to reflect, catch up with friends at social events, and try new things while discovering areas to improve. Suddenly, life falls back into place, and the world continues to spin as people return to their normal routines. Most people fail to acknowledge the benefits of spring break. They rarely consider how beneficial it is or the many ways people learn from new experiences. For instance, vacation exposes children to new landscapes and diverse cultures. However, not all growing experiences require high expenses because students can learn bravery through trying new things. Whether large or small, these stories are unique to the public because they share how people discover who they are.
Most people do not consider spring break a “life-altering experience” because that can seem far-fetched in life. They often fail to understand that growth shines through in quieter ways that are equally meaningful. “I was sick all break, and I lost my voice, but I finally listened to my common sense, and I rested at home,” freshman Avianna Murray explained. Overall, spring break allowed her to reflect, rest, and find new ways to practice self-care. Murray remained optimistic and tackled the problem with a growth mindset. “I really appreciate that you came to discuss this with me. I’ve never had someone so curious about how other people grow and their experiences throughout high school,” Murray added to the discussion.
Other students may discover new things through larger experiences. Freshman Emily Clark took her first driving lesson over break and learned how to navigate the parking lot with care. “It depends on what car you drive, but when you push the gas pedal and the brake, you have to be super gentle,” Clark explained in her own words. Furthermore, she realized that tiny movements demand attentiveness and careful thought. “If the car is in drive and you take your foot off the brake, the car is going to move a little bit, but if you have your foot on the brake, it won’t move,” Clark noted. Both experiences gave her valuable insight and practical tips for driving safely.
Many students in the community have reflected and grown over spring break. Behind each of their stories lie deeper meanings and important lessons. Murray and Clark were introduced to new learning opportunities, and are more likely to keep an open mind and continue discovering who they are. Spring break has offered time for rest while inspiring people to create memories and achieve milestones. Like these two girls, the author encourages students to share their experiences.
